Shops and Individuals Donating Food

Leeds FAN wants to recognise the invaluable contribution people have made in distributing food to initiatives that are delivering food aid provision in the city of Leeds. We want to encourage shops, supermarkets, churches, mosques, businesses, food growers, Council offices, individuals and many more to distribute food to different food providers in the city.

Please do contact Mary Halsey from Unity in Poverty Action (UPA) on [email protected] or call her on (07557) 331519 if you wish to donate food to an existing food provider in the city. Please note that individuals, organisations, churches, mosques etc… can also donate to FareShare, which will then distribute out the food given to different food providers. Please see article on Kirkstall Gardens below for a creative example of a group growing food which has the aim of distributing it’s produce to a food aid provider.

Kirkstall Gardens was set up to help mobilise people who were predominantly living in high-rise flats in Kirkstall to grow their own food. The Community Gardens initiative currently has two allotments which are used to grow fruit and vegetables. Once they have managed to harvest their first lot of food they intend to distribute the produce to different places, including food providers such as the North Leeds Food Bank.
